Project Reflection

In this project we studied an original Spanish Corrido and we wrote our own original corrido. We had the choice of using the music from the corrido that we studied and making up different lyrics or writing our own corrido from scratch about a historical event that happened. In the weeks prior to this project all of the Spanish 2 classes studied about how to conjugate verbs in the imperfect tense and conjugating in the past tense. We also learned about the Mexican Revolution and about famous people in olden day mexico. A corrido is a type of song that is told about events that happened in the past. many people who tell these stories change them a little bit so that they are made in to more interesting stories. Corridos are usually about a hero in a story or a villain. This project also involved writing about the history of the subject of our Corridos and doing a project piece to tell about our corrido in an artistic way.

The corrido that i decided to study was called Corridos Tiempos de Amargos. This corrido talked about poor people called the Agraristas that lived during the time of the Mexican Revolution and the reign of Porfirio Diaz. This corrido talks about the hard times that the agrarians had. In the song they talk about how the poor people had to zip up their masters pants for them. I found that really sad, but it is a key aspect in my corrido. I chose this corrido because it has a more emotional feel to it compared to other Corridos.

For my project i decided to do a dance. I wanted to do a dance because dancing can really tell a story, i enjoy dancing and because i thought that a dance was one of the only ways that i could creatively express my song that i wrote. I decided to use a piano song titles "Love Hurts" by and artist named Yiruma.  This song is slow but it has a sad feel to it. I decided to film my dance outside in a field to make it look more authentic. In my video i wore a skirt that kind of looked Mexican and a stripped shirt. Overall i'm really glad that i decided to do a dance because it was really unique and i was the only person to do one.

the things that i learned about grammar in this corrido is that having the correct grammar. It was really hard to remember all of the forms that we had to write our words in and it was hard. I also learned that different forms of grammar like present tense and past tense can really make what you are trying to say look good and sound better. I learned that Mexican-American history is the thing that makes the USA today so interesting. Our stories, songs, and music all come form our history and it was really fun to learn about all of the different things that happened to create the America that we have today. The most difficult part of this project was actually writing my corrido and artist history in Spanish. I overcame this by getting alot of help from my teacher and revising my corrido frequently.
